What is the Segue Game?

The Segue is a game almost anyone can learn which

  1. Solves big problems
  2. Improves communication
  3. Inspires cooperative action
The Segue is a social game for tackling complex organizational issues. It is an easy to learn, non-competitive game of skill and cooperative strategy in which the stakes are real and interestingly high. A Segue Game combines the human love of games with proven collaborative problem solving techniques to create a unique approach when you need cooperation and collaboration.

When is a good opportunity to play a Segue?

  • Whenever the outcome is important to everyone in the group
  • Creating the vision for a project
  • Strategic planning
  • Exploring the possibilities for an emerging opportunity
  • Planning a family reunion
  • Negotiating a contract
  • Streamlining a business process
  • Creating public support for new bike lanes
  • Designing an international conference
  • Deciding where to move the business
  • When you need to come up with a fair work schedule
  • Creating a breakthrough software application
  • When the volunteers want to create a more relevant program for their efforts
  • You want everyone in the organization on the same page

Games in which the stakes are real and interestingly high

Let’s say the game is HOW QUICKLY CAN WE DIVERT THE RISING WATER? Everyone plays and finds their place on the team, from filling sandbags to making sandwiches. There are no bystanders. Leadership and coordination arise from everyone’s eyes, ears and backs responding to the changing situation at hand.
When an outcome matters to everyone, a team naturally develops coherence. It is a quality which  overrides pettiness, destructive internal competition, and protective isolation.  Coherence allows people to show up in their full capabilities, not only in their job descriptions.

What is the secret to the success of the Segue?

The secret behind the Segue consistently producing high level results is that it is based on universal principles.
One of the principles is that a basic human need is to participate in something larger than the individual.  Anyone—from a class of fourth graders to an executive design team—can play a Segue to solve their unique problem or to optimize a new opportunity.  A Segue provides each individual with a critical cooperating role in producing something important to the whole neighborhood, the whole company, the whole congregation, the whole family.

Play that works

“The most obvious result that I noticed [from our first meeting] was the individual and group focus that resulted.  Rather than ending with a fragmented feeling, it seemed to me that we were all heading in the same direction.  That’s huge!”

What percent of your people are into Farmville or Fantasy Football or other interactive online game?

What if your people’s natural affinity for play could be directed toward coming up with better ideas for your projects? What if they found a game which is big enough to include everyone who has a stake in the outcome and at the same time is more interesting than anything else they might do in their down time?
What if playing a game could birth new ways of thinking about how you approach problems? —and not cause a shock to your system while you learn it?
Business owners and managers report that playing a Segue not only helps produce better solutions, but improves communication and relationships across the board.

Who can play a Segue?

Almost anyone can learn the Segue, a game which

  1. solves big problems
  2. improves communication
  3. inspires cooperative action
Any group of two or more people with something important to accomplish—from children to international leaders—can use a Segue to accomplish it better, with everyone playing a crucial role toward its success.
